About the artist

Borned in 1980. While studying philosophy in Middle East Technical University, she decided to research and work on theatre. She worked with several theatre companies in Ankara and decided to specify her work on puppet theatre. She studied with the Czech Puppet artists Miroslav Trejtnar and Marek Becka in kidnappa puppet school Prague, b/w 1999-2001.

There, she worked with the theatre company "Divadlo Continuo". In 2002, she graduated from the department of philosophy and found her own company in Turkey; "Ahsap Cerceve Puppet Theatre", with Emre Tandogan. They decided to perform only for adults, and they based their work on the mystical view of puppets, rather than the epic one.

In 2002, she participated in the workshop of Tadashi Endo in Gottingen, in order to find out a relation between the body of the butoh dancer and the movement of the puppets. After 2002, she participated in international festivals as World Performing Arts Pakistan; World Festival of Puppet Art, Prague; International Puppet Festival of Jerusalem, International Theatre Festival of The Black Sea Countries, International Ankara Theatre Festival, Istanbul Puppet Festival, etc., with her company as the puppet designer and the performer of the company.

Other than Ahsap Cerceve Puppet Theatre, she has been designing puppets for National Theatre, non-governmental companies as well as TV. In order to promote the art of puppetry in Turkey she has been giving seminars in universities as METU, Ankara; Ege University, Izmir and Istanbul Kultur University. She had translated the book of Jayadeva Tilakasiri, "The Puppet Theatre of Asia"into Turkish and the book is published in May 2008 by Mitos-Boyut. This is the first book on puppet theatre, that has been translated into Turkish. She is also conducting workshops on puppet construction in her atelier place, in order to spread the art to those who are interested in it.
