1. Golden Okra Awards presented with a ceremony where the frequent sentence told was “Hopefully we will not be able to give the awards next year either”.

The nominees, selected from films screened in 2008, went through a jury of 61 to win the awards that were presented in order to criticize the discrimination towards women, patriarchy and sexism in films from Turkey.

In Golden Okra Awards given within the frame of 7th International Filmmor Women Film Festival, “Issız Adam” was awarded both in motion picture and screenplay categories.  “Recep İvedik” was given the award in leading male character category and also the Jury Exclusive Three and a Half Okra award, pointing out the homophobia in films.  “Hacer” character from the film “Three Monkeys” was awarded because of “being remorseless”.  Nobody came to get the statuette of giant okra in a glass jar.
