Almıla Kursar’s fourth private exhibition ‘Dumb Baby Grows Up’ is on in Çukurcuma.  The exhibition could be visited until 10 July 2009.

In her exhibition Almıla Kursar makes the representative codes of woman gender visible by displaying women toys she has made in various and diverse roles such as disabled, exhibitionist, mother, goddess, homosexual, prostitute and many more who are ignored. Her reaction towards the materialization of women as sex objects, as tool for the aim instead of accepting them just as human or fellow in this world of globalization, is easily recognizable in the exhibition.

Who is Almıla Kursar?

Kursar, who had started to draw in her really young age, even before primary school, graduated from Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty Painting Department.  She had her first exhibition in a café.  The artist had her second exhibition in Kuzguncuk Art House and her third exhibition “Kirli Ağustos” was in Galery Artist.  The artist, who is also interested in literature, has a book called “Kafamda Sesler Konuşuyor”.
