Artane presents another unique example of Latin American contemporary art with “Animalities”, a solo exhibition by an Argentinian photographer, Juan Erlich. In this exhibition which can be viewed from February 18 to March 27, Juan Erlich portrays Argentinian nature and animals with a surrealistic approach.
“Animalities” is a series of striking animal photography as a result of Erlich’s unique technique. By manipulating animals’ natural habitat and forms Erlich creates fresh, vibrant transformations; unveiling a possible fantasy world with an astonishing harmony. Our perception of “familiarity” is challenged and we are captivated by this unusual new world through the eye of the artist.
Argentina’s emerging artist Juan Erlich studied cinema and photography. After finishing his studies, he started taking photographs of Argentinian landscapes and zoos for the museum of natural history of Buenos Aires as well as working on his other photographic projects. By digitally rendering these photographs, Erlich brought a brand new perspective to the animal kingdom.
According to the art critic Sarah Hermann, Erlich "creates his own manual of zoology from where it raises his possible and alternate worlds. We can recognize in this series a complex system of mutations between species, luck of dislocation of characters and characteristics.”
“Animalities” will be open to public from February 18 to March 27, 2010.
